Runnin' Vikes beat WVCC
WENATCHEE - Brendan Westendorf had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Big Bend Community College (BBCC) men's basketball to a 69-54 road win at Wenatchee Valley Community College (WVCC) Saturday.
The victory moves the Runnin' Vikes to 2-1 and into a six-way tie for first place in the East Division standings.
"We played a great first half ... it's always nice to win on the road," coach Mark Poth said. "Trevor Johnson and Brandon Funston have really filled in well for Kyle Nield (sprained ankle). We hope to have him back this weekend."
BBCC had little trouble with the Knights as the Runnin' Vikes jumped out to a 40-15 lead at the break. WVCC cut into the large first half deficit as the Knights out scored BBCC 39-29 in the second 20 minutes of action, but dropped the contest by 15 points.
Kevin Walker knocked down 14 points, Trevor Johnson had 12, Brandon Funston and Ryan Page added 10 each, Kamen McCullough chipped in 4, Cameron Sanchez, 2, and Bryce Perez finished with 1 to round out the scoring for BBCC.
The win over the Knights puts the Runnin' Vikes at 13-4 overall.
BBCC is back in action with two home games this weekend. The Runnin' Vikes host Blue Mountain Community College Friday at 8 p.m., and match up with Treasure Valley Community College Saturday at 4 p.m.
