Fidencio was born January 29, 1928 to Modesto and Faustina Vela in Venecia, Tamaulipas Mexico, and was the youngest of 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Fidencio met his beautiful wife, Micaela Lopez Vela, in May of 1956 in Mission, Texas and were married there on December 30, 1957. Fidencio came to the United States from Mexico in 1947 as a contract laborer and worked in Mission, Texas until he moved with his family to Moses Lake, Washington in the early 1960s. His proudest moment was when he became a naturalized citizen of the United States in September of 1990. He worked for the American Potato Company and retired in June of 1996 after a successful 28-year career. As an accomplished musician, Fidencio enjoyed playing "corrido" (narrative songs and poetry) and "bolero" (romantic music) from his homeland Mexico, on his accordion for his family and friends. His passion was his family, especially spending time with them and friends at home gatherings for "Grandpa's Menudo," storytelling, and barbeques. He was actively involved in his church, Our Lady of Fatima, and enjoyed playing the accordion in the choir for many years.

Fidencio is preceded in death by son, Fidencio Vela, Jr., and daughter, Maria Luisa DeLeon. He is survived by his loving wife, Micaela; sons Jose O. (Norma) Vela, Israel (Krista) Vela, and Horacio (Sandy) Vela; grandchildren Veronica and Anthony Vela, Carly and Cameron Vela, Gabriel (Lydia) DeLeon, and Brenda (Chris) Adame; great-granddaughters Amayah and Anjalee DeLeon, and great-grandsons Jasiah and Jayden Adame, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the youth programs of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 200 North Dale Road, Moses Lake, WA 98837-1647.
