Royal girls fall, 53-23

| January 1, 2013 5:00 AM

ROYAL CITY - The Royal girls had a decent fourth quarter, but the first three were nightmarish in a 53-23 non-league prep basketball loss to Highland last week.

The Knights scored 5, 4 and 4 points in the first three periods and trailed, 41-13. They lost the fourth quarter as well but only by 12-10.

The leading scorers for the Knights were Flor Araujo and Kayla Smith with three points each. Brittany Hebdon grabbed 11 rebounds, and Smith had six.

"We have to play better defense and be more competitive," coach Phil Daubel said. "Getting to the free throw line only four times shows our lack of aggressiveness."
