An Ephrata police officer on Basin Street Northwest observed the juvenile driving a vehicle at a high rate of speed on Alder Street Northwest, traveling north, according to police reports released Monday. The officer was able to catch up to the vehicle and recognized the vehicle as stolen.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the juvenile, a 17-year-old male, drove away at speeds of 95 mph, according to the report. The suspect attempted to make a left turn onto state Route 17 and struck a light pole.

The juvenile was arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft, unlawful possession of a motor vehicle, eluding a pursuing police vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia and no valid operator's license.
