Moses Lake man run over on Hwy 17 on Sunday

MOSES LAKE - A Moses Lake man was run over by a vehicle Sunday after getting out of his pickup to check a tow chain.

According to police reports, about 12:20 a.m., Justin A. Henderson, 25, exited a black 1977 Dodge pickup being towed by another vehicle at the stoplight on the intersection of state Route 17 and East Nelson Road. Both vehicles were stopped at the intersection.

Henderson was inspecting the tow chain or rope when the driver of a 1998 Ford Expedition, the tow vehicle, proceeded forward when the light turned green, running over Henderson, according to reports.

Witnesses said they observed the driver's side front tire running over Henderson's torso while the passenger rear tire ran over his legs.

Moses Lake Fire Department responded and transported Henderson to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. He was later transported to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.

Fire Chief Tom Taylor could not release any information on the extent of Henderson's injuries.

The incident is still under investigation and no charges are expected against the driver, according to police Capt. Dave Ruffin.
