Philip was born in Yakima, Washington on July 16, 1949, son of John and Lucy (Tindall) Hopkins. He was raised and educated in Moses Lake.
Philip's last job was for a company that was contracted with the U. S. Navy to set up, maintain, and rebuild marine targets for the west coast. Phil was in charge of bids, ordering materials, and the crews that did the work before moving back to Moses Lake to be closer to his family and old friends. He was well known for this motto "If there's a Phil, there's a way." He had a great work ethic, no job was beneath him.
Philip was very active in church and he loved to play his guitar for small groups of many different sorts. All who worked or played with Phil came away with a piece of God's love, even if they didn't know it. His way of mentoring was to just be himself and let others see love though him.
Everyone who knew Phil, was touched by him in some way either by his kindness, honesty, or smile which came with that twinkle in his eyes that always held a little tease and let's not forget those hugs. He was much loved and respected by his fellow workers and family and friends. He will be remembered for his infectious smile and sense of humor; his leadership skills; his ability to repair anything; and his offer to help his friends with any task. He was the best husband, father and friend and showed us all how to love and laugh. Each of us has our own memories with him and he will be remembered with much love.
Philip is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara J. Hopkins; children, Cassie (Chris) Parker, Jennifer (Darrin) Bacon and Kimberly (Kris) Chaffin; siblings, John (Nancy) Craig-Hopkins, William Hopkins and David Hopkins; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry C. Hopkins.
Memorials may be made to the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation, PO Box 1337, Moses Lake, WA 98837.
