Dora Yoriko Shimura
On February 20, 2013, Dora Yoriko Shimura went to Heaven peacefully at home. Dora and her twin sister Doris were born on July 16, 1942 in Chiba, Japan to Takeji and Fuji Minegishi.
Dora enjoyed her childhood growing up in Japan alongside her siblings. Her family moved to the United States and became citizens when she was a teenager. After graduating high school Dora went on to use her artistic talents creating jewelry in Seattle, Washington. From stringing pearls to setting precious stones, Dora loved making beautiful jewelry people would cherish for generations.
On February 17, 1973 Dora married Thomas Shimura. They made their home in Moses Lake, Washington where they did crop farming. It is there they raised their two children and made many happy memories.
An active member of the Lakeview Missionary Church, Dora enjoyed attending services and visiting with all the friends she made in the congregation. Dora was always smiling and her positive attitude made her a pleasure to be around. Whether going out to dinner with friends or playing cards with her husband you knew you would find her smiling. Dora will be remembered for her sunny disposition and caring personality.
Dora is survived by her husband of 40 years, Thomas; son, Tom Jr.; daughter, Gail and son-in-law, John; brother, Wayne (Florence); sisters, Doris (Dean) and Sue (Fred); sister-in-laws, Peggy and Kazuko; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Dora was preceded by her parents, Takeji and Fuji and brother, Max.
The family would like to thank all of Dora's doctors and nurses, Assured Hospice, friends and extended family for all their support during this difficult time.
A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2013 at Kayser's Chapel in Moses Lake, Washington. Please sign the online guestbook or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel & Crematory.
