| February 22, 2013 12:00 PM

ROYAL CITY – If you're intending to play in the annual Polar Bear Open golf tournament on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Royal Golf Course, you need to sign up quickly.

According to tournament director Kyle Arthur, 12 foursomes were ready to go as of Sunday. Only 18 can be accommodated.

The tournament has been expanded this year. It had been a Jan. 1 challenge among men's club members. It is played no matter the weather.

“There could be a delay if there is frost,” RGC Superintendent Kyle Arthur said.

Otherwise, the shotgun start is scheduled for 10 a.m. On Sunday, Accuweather was predicting a 46 degrees with sunshine-limiting clouds on the 23rd.

The Polar Bear is a 4-person scramble with gross scoring only. The entry fee for club members will be $25 per player. It will be $30 for non-members.

There will be fire pits for the players to warm themselves. There will also be a beverage cart and special event holes for men and women.
