Lady Vikings drop nail-biter to WVCC

MOSES LAKE - The Big Bend Community College (BBCC) Lady Vikings came oh so close to pulling out a come-from-behind win in the teams' final regular season game last night.

But BBCC was unable to hold on to a slim lead in the waning seconds and dropped the contest 60-58 to the Lady Knights.

BBCC fell behind early and trailed 37-22 at the half as the Lady Vikings couldn't get their shots to fall and had trouble handling WVCC's pressure defense.

A bucket from beyond the arc by Alli Winters and a layup Sierra Zollinger got BBCC back in it 37-29. The Lady Knights stretched their lead to 47-33, but the Lady Vikings answered back with a 22-5 run on the strength of three treys by Winters to take the lead 55-52 with just over four minutes left.

WVCC fought back to tie the game 58-58, then retook the lead 60-58 with 20 tics on the clock.

BBCC had the final possession of the game, but missed a shot and a put-back as time ran out.

Winters was high scorer for the Lady Vikings with 17 points. Cristina Marlatt added 10, Zollinger had 9, Jessica Sorensen knocked down 8, Jazlyn Nielsen scored 6, and Shaylyn Brown, Shanelle Hemmert, Desirae Hall and Hannah Smith finished with 2 points each to round out the scoring for BBCC.

The loss dropped the Lady Vikings to 6-8 in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges's East Region league standings.
