Thomas Glenn Shay

Thomas Glenn Shay born September 7, 1933, passed away February 11, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital. Tom was born & raised in Lebanon, PA. After high school graduation he enlisted in the Navy, serving during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. Tom then began a long career as a civil servant until his retirement in 1990.

Tom married Barbara Vandeventer Gay in February 1967. He is survived by his wife Barbara Shay of Moses Lake. Seven children, Roger Gay of VA, Connie Ellertson of S. Carolina, Woody (Karen) Gay of Spokane, WA, Pipa (Butch) Boley of KS, Dusty (Shelley) Gay of Moses Lake, Tom (Lynnette) Shay of Ephrata, and Keta (Mark) Bostwick of MO. Tom has 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren including, Curtis, Christina, Kiah, Tristan & Austin. Tom is also survived by brothers Robert, Jack & a sister Pat all of PA, sister-in-law Wanda Haas of CA and good friend Rich Oestreich of Moses Lake.

Preceding Tom in death were his parents Richard and Bertha, brother Dick and twin sister Marilyn.

After retiring to Moses Lake Tom was involved in several community organizations including, VFW Post 24, Eagles Post 2622, American Legion Post 209, Life member of Masonic Blue Lodge, 32 degree Mason Scottish Rite, Shriner El Katif and Eastern Star. Tom also enjoyed showing his prized 1951 Ford Victoria and was a member of the Moses Lake classic car club. He performed as a Shriner Clown. Tom was instrumental in facilitating treatment for many local youth at Shriners Hospital in Spokane, WA.

The family would like to thank family, friends and members of the Moses Lake United Methodist Church for their prayers and support at this difficult time. The family would also like to thank Grant County Fire District 5, Moses Lake Fire ambulance, staff at Samaritan Hospital including Dr.'s Murray and De Castro, RN's Chris ER, Shanessa, Gabby and Teresa ACU, and CNA's Janet and Alona.

Memorial services will be Saturday February 16 at 4:00 p.m. at the Moses Lake United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Moses Lake United Methodist Church or Shriner Hospital, Spokane, WA.
