Royal Golf Course to host Polar Bear Open

| February 13, 2013 5:00 AM

ROYAL CITY – The annual Polar Bear Open golf tournament will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Royal Golf Course.

The tournament has been expanded this year. It had been a Jan. 1 challenge among men's club members. It is played no matter the weather.

“There could be a delay if there is frost,” RGC Superintendent Kyle Arthur said.

Otherwise, the shotgun start is scheduled for 10 a.m. On Monday, Accuweather was predicting a balmy 41 degrees on the 23rd.

The Polar Bear is a 4-person scramble with gross scoring only. The entry fee for club members will be $25 per player. It will be $30 for non-members.

There will be fire pits for the players to warm themselves. There will also be a beverage cart and special event holes for men and women.
