ROYAL CITY - What do you think of when the word Renaissance is spoken?

Art is often brought to mind.

So when Royal City SummerFest chose "Royal Renaissance" for its 2013 theme, having an Art Show seemed like a perfect addition.

The 2013 Royal City SummerFest Art Contest, open to all of the Columbia Basin, is scheduled for July 12 and 13. Entries will be displayed Friday evening and all day Saturday until 5 p.m.

"Every effort will be made to supervise and monitor the art work," SummerFest Committee member Leslie Fanning said.

According to Fanning, the art must be family friendly. It may consist of mediums such as crayon, pencil, chalk, acrylics, oils and graphics. Artists are encouraged to title their works.

According to committee member Nancy Grant, there will be prizes in six categories: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place ribbons in each age group, plus a first place cash prize in each age group.

The age groups and the cash prizes are as follows: 6-and-under, $20; 7-9, $20; 10-12, $30; 13-17, $40; 18 & Up, $50; and People's Choice, $75.

The Peoples Choice Award will be determined by votes from the public on the days of display.

Entries are due by May 30 for all age groups 17 and under and June 30 for 18 and above. Entry forms may be mailed to: Royal City SummerFest, P.O. Box 1226, Royal City, WA 99357 or dropped off at Harvest Foods in Royal City.

Royal Schools student entries may be dropped off at the library at Red Rock Elementary or Royal High School. Works must be picked up by the artist after 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 13.

"If you know a budding artist, be sure to let them know about the art contest," Grant said.
