Cougar boys turn back competition
WARDEN - The battle for first place came down between Warden and Kiona-Benton at the 1A SCAC East District 5 Tournament in Warden Saturday.
And when it was all said and done, the Cougars came out the victor with a 38-point win over the Bears. Connell finished third with 189.5 points, Royal fourth with 182, Waluke, fifth with 153, River View took sixth with 104, and Columbia Burbank finished seventh with 63 points.
Warden finished the competition with two champions, six runner-ups, three third-place finishers, two fourth, three fifth and two sixth place wrestlers. Ki-Be crowned four champions, had one second place finisher, three third place, four fourth-place wrestlers, and three grapplers who finished fifth.
The Cougars Jesus Dominguez won by Fall, 4-3 over teammate Miguel Canales to claim the 106 weight class, and Adam Hansen (220) took first by fall over teammate Israel Valencia.
The four other second place finishers for Warden were Ramses Rodelo (126), Raul Martines (132), Saul Hinojosa (138), and Emillo Prineda (145).
Wrestlers who placed third for the Cougars were Josiah Guerra (113), Tyson Yamane (120), and Jack Yorgesen (182). Fourth place finishers were Joseph Pruneda (126) and Drake Hansen (182). Peter Manville (120), Nicholas Guerra (195), and Cyrus Rojas (285) took fifth place, and Johnny Martinez (113), and Isaac Campos (195) placed sixth. The top four placers in each weight class moves on to the regional tournament at Connell High School Saturday.
