Lions get big win over Entiat Tigers
MOSES LAKE - Four players scored in double figures to lead Moses Lake Christian Academy boys basketball to a 77-63 home win over the Entiat Tigers Saturday.
Lowell Kirkwood was 3 assists shy of a triple-double with 30 points 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Austin Ray added 16 points, Quade Godfrey had 12 points and Alec Naccarato finished with 11 points to lead the Lions to victory.
"What a way for Lowell and Quade to go out on senior night," coach Duke Wood said. "The game was a real war in front of a packed home crowd."
The contest was played with playoff intensity throughout, as both teams needed a win as they jockeyed for playoff seeding.
MLCA got out to a 13-10 lead after the first quarter of action, but Entiat was not fazed and got within a point, 33-32 at the half.
"We started out a bit nervous. As a coach, I will have to take a little of the blame because I think I might have put so much emphasis on the importance of this game," Wood said. "But the guys eventually settled down after halftime and played with a lot of composure the rest of the way."
The Lions came out of the locker room fired up and put 24 points on the board in the third quarter to give the team some breathing room, 57-46. A 20-17 run in the fourth quarter sealed the deal for MLCA.
"Entiat has had a lot of tough games and have fallen short at the end," Wood said. "But whoever will see them in the playoffs had better be ready."
The nonleague win over the Tigers runs the Lions record to 13-5 overall. MLCA is 12-1 in league play.
The team is back on the hardwood Friday when the Lions take to the road to play Wilson Creek. If they beat the Devils, MLCA will be the No. 1 seed and receive a first round bye heading into district play, which gets underway in Ephrata Feb. 9. As the top seed, the Lions will play their first game Feb. 12.
