BBCC men beat Spokane
MOSES LAKE - The Runnin' Vikes extended their win streak to seven games with an 81-70 home victory over the Sasquatch from Community Colleges of Spokane Wednesday.
Big Bend Community College (BBCC) has won nine of its last 10 games, is 7-1 in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) East Division, and 18-2 overall. The first place Runnin' Vikes last loss came on the road at the hands of the Sasquatch Jan. 5.
"I thought our players came out with a lot of energy, and despite having a poor shooting night, we were able to make up for it on the offensive glass with 22 points off rebounds," coach Mark Poth said. "The second big factor in the game was winning turnover battle. They had 22 to our 10."
The game was competitive throughout as the Runnin' Vikes took a 40-32 lead into the locker room at the break. Just 3 points separated the second half scoring, as BBCC hung 41 points on the board to the Sasquatch 38.
The Runnin' Vikes put together a balanced offensive attack as four players posted double figures for the game. Brendan Westendorf led the way for BBCC with 23 points. Kyle Nield added 21, Kamen McCullough had 14, and Kevin Walker finished with 11. Ryan Page, Brandon Funston, and Trevor Johnson knocked down 4 each to round out the scoring for BBCC.
The win over Spokane gives the Runnin' Vikes a two-game lead in the standing, and improves the teams' ranking to No. 2 in the NWAACC Coaches Poll.
BBCC is back in action tomorrow night when the Runnin' Vikes hit the road to Yakima to take on the Yaks.
