MOSES LAKE - Alli Winters scored 20 points, Jessica Sorensen added 9, and Shaylyn Brown finished with 8, but their efforts weren't enough to pull out a win over Community Colleges of Spokane Wednesday.

The loss to the Sasquatch drops the Big Bend Community College (BBCC) Lady Vikings to 4-4 in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) East Division standings, and 14-8 overall.

"I thought we executed our game plan well. We wanted to play zone defense to keep the ball out of the hands of Rylie Holsinger who can really be hard to stop when playing man defense," coach Preston Wilks said. "What really got us was we didn't handle the press they slapped on us near the end of the game. It's hard to run many sets when you're coming out of your press-breaker, and we didn't get many good looks over the last five minutes or so."

BBCC led 32-26 after the first 20 minutes of action, but a 38-27 second half allowed Spokane to pull out the come from behind win.

"Spokane played well and went on an 18-4 run to close it out," Wilks said. "In those situations, you need your team to step up and make some plays, and we didn't get that at the end."

Sierra Zollinger scored 6 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, Hannah Smith (13 boards) and Cristina Marlatt tallied 5 points each, Shanelle Hemmert scored 3 points, McKall Miller, 2, and Desire Hall finished with 1 point in the loss.

"Had we won, we would have been in sole possession of third place," Wilks said. "Now, we get to go and play on Saturday for a chance to take over fourth place. I really like how we've been playing defense over the last two games, and I like our chances to go down to Yakima and rebound from this tough loss."

The Lady Vikings are on the road for their next three games beginning with the Yaks tomorrow night. BBCC takes on Treasure Valley Feb. 8, then plays at Blue Mountain Community College Feb. 9, before returning home to face Columbia Basin Community College Feb. 13.
