Volunteer firefighters save home from blaze
The photo above demonstrates how close a Royal family came to losing its home to a fire in the early morning hours of December 18.
ROYAL CITY - Grant County Fire Districts Nos. 10-11 extinguished an early morning structure fire in the 7100 block of El Camino Court SE on Dec. 18 while saving a home.
The first unit on scene reported a fully involved 20 x 30 foot building with exposure to a single wide residential home and several vehicles. The residence was saved.
"If it wasn't for the quick response from the dedicated volunteer firefighters of the Districts, we would have lost this home for sure." Captain Christian Davis said.
The structure that was lost housed vehicles, personal belongings and assorted equipment which added to the intensity of the fire.
More than 12 firefighters, three engines, four tenders, one ambulance and two support units helped crews battle the fire.
"Crews worked hard for several hours to contain the blaze and extinguish the fire," Davis said.
According to Davis, the estimated loss is around $34,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Grant County Fire Marshal's Office. It is believed to have been set by a portable heating device near some combustible material.
