MLIRD ratepayer questions assessment bill

| December 27, 2013 5:00 AM

Well, today round one was lost by Joe Average Citizen, the victor was a Goliath; the MLIRD.

The fight was over money wrongfully taken from J.C. much like a bully steals lunch money from a classmate. A few of you may know what I'm talking about and for those who don't, you need to know.

It's all about assessing properties that are not within the MLIRD boundaries and pocketing the money. True story, I was made aware of the fact by one of the directors over a year ago in a letter that was sent to me and many others. I checked it out and sure enough, I paid erroneous assessments for 2008, 2009 and 2010 and possibly other years while not within the MLIRD boundaries.

The district admits some properties were erroneously assessed in Resolution 2011-031. Pick up a copy at the MLIRD.

It's been almost a year since I filed my claim and still no resolution. Based on RCW 84.68.020, the lower court doesn't have jurisdiction to hear this complaint and the higher court is just not economically practical to go it alone.

Was your pocket picked? Get involved. Or just do nothing. They are hoping for the later.
