MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake boys basketball blitzed the Davis Pirates Friday night opening up an 18-5 lead after the first quarter.

The Chiefs controlled the game and relatively cruised to a 83-60 blowout win. The margin of victory came as a surprise to some as the Pirates entered the game tied for first place in the Columbia Basin Big 9 and sported an overall record of 6-1.

With the win, Moses Lake improves to 2-1 in the Big 9 and 4-1 overall.

Sophomore center Cesar Sandoval led the Chiefs in scoring with 20 points and added nine rebounds, but the Moses Lake bench was the turning point in the game.

Head coach John Hohman's reserve unit provided 33 points.

Sophomore guard Ricardo Gonzalez was the team's second leading scorer with 13 points and junior guard Derek Martinez provided a spark nailing four three-pointers, good for 12 points.

In all, five Chiefs scored in double figures. Forwards senior Nick Sutherland and junior Mitch Hohman each scored 10 points.

Moses Lake is back on the road Saturday to face league opponent Sunnyside. The team's next home game is scheduled for Jan. 10 against Eisenhower.
