MOSES LAKE - When Kandi Petersen needs to relax, she reaches for some yarn and her crochet hook.

Crocheting has always been a hobby of hers, Petersen said.

So when she moved from Spokane to Moses Lake earlier this year, it was a given that she would be bringing her supplies with her.

"I crochet because it's relaxing and I enjoy making things," she said. Petersen soon found an outlet for some of her finished products at Craft Creations in downtown Moses Lake.

When it came time to replenish her supplies, she said she began asking other people where they bought their yarn.

"Some people said they would drive to Wenatchee or Tri-Cities or even Spokane,"Petersen said. "So I had a bright idea that I should open a place for people to buy yarn."

In November, Petersen acquired her current space in the Desert Plaza Building on Third Avenue. The space is actually down the hall from Craft Creations, where she still sells some of her finished projects, she said.

Petersen officially opened Kandi's Yarn Closet on Thursday. The store carries yarn, needles and other materials for various knitting or crocheting projects, she said.

"People have been asking about beads so we will carry some of that," Petersen said. "We can also try to bring in special order items as well."

In addition, Petersen said she plans on offering affordable classes once or twice a week at the store.

Kandi's Yarn Closet is located inside the Desert Plaza Building on Third Avenue.

The store is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
