ROYAL CITY - Grant County's Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team (INET) and deputies from the Grant County Sheriff's Office arrested a Royal City man after a United States Postal Inspector identified a suspicious package that contained illegal quantities of marijuana. ?

Moises J. Tello Quintana, 26, was arrested on Dec. 9 in the 8400 block of Road 10.5 SW, north of Royal City. He was booked into the Grant County Jail for possession of marijuana and cocaine with intent to deliver. ?

On Dec. 4, after being called by the US Postal Service, a K-9 unit was brought in to inspect a package with suspicious characteristics, including an address that did not actually exist. The K-9 findings resulted in a federal search warrant to open the package. Three pounds of marijuana were found.

In cooperation with the US Postal Service, INET agents re-sealed the package and the US Postal Service made the package available for delivery to the addressee. On the morning of Dec. 9, the suspect picked up the package, returned to his residence, where he was then arrested by INET and GCSO deputies.

INET also found about 10 grams of cocaine elsewhere in the home. ?

“Use of the United States postal service for shipment of illegal substances carries hefty consequences,” Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones said. “We are grateful for the US Postal Inspectors’ alert response to the suspicious package and the subsequent cooperative partnership with the GCSO in order to intercept and shut this operation down.”
