Arson suspected as cover-up

LAKE – Investigators from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and the Grant County Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating a suspected arson fire that may be tied to a burglary. ?

Grant County Fire District No. 5 answered a call for a structure fire at a home at 13553 Baseline.5 SE at around 1 p.m. on Nov. 29.

Evidence at the scene suggests a burglary happened at the home, and a fire happened afterward Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones said. Property missing from the home includes guns and precious metals valued at $20,000. The fire caused about $100,000 damage.

The homeowner was out of town when the incident occurred.
