Former Moses Lake man's identify released in shooting death

SPOKANE - A former Moses Lake resident who was shot to death in his home in Spokane's South Hill neighborhood was identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner on Tuesday as Douglas Carlile, 63.

Carlile died of gunshot wounds he suffered Sunday evening in what the medical examiner called a homicide.

The shooting occurred during an apparent home invasion at Carlile's upscale home. Police have said the shooting does not appear to be random, and that the victim was targeted by the shooter.

No motive has been given.

The Spokesman-Review reported Tuesday that Carlile moved to Spokane a few years ago with his family and owned several businesse

Police on Tuesday issued a news release asking for the public's help in collecting information on Carlile's business dealings.

Police said Carlile's wife reported that her husband had been confronted by a gunman in their home and tried to calm him down. The woman ran upstairs to hide and call 911 for help, and heard several gunshots.

The shooting shocked residents of the well-to-do neighborhood, and was immediately marked by police as unusual.

"We don't have these types of incidents in Spokane, where someone comes into somebody else's house and just shoots them," police Capt. Joe Walker said Monday.

The Spokesman-Review said Carlile was listed in state records as an officer in several companies. Among them is Bridgewater Energy LLC. He's also listed as president of Oasis Development Inc., president of All Wood Recyclers Inc. of Issaquah, manager of Dovehaven LLC and principal in Rucon Inc.

KHQ-TV of Spokane has reported that Carlile had business interests in Spokane, Moses Lake and North Dakota.
