ROYAL CITY - Ben Orth, eighth-grade science teacher at Royal Middle School, and the entire eighth-grade class enthusiastically invite the community to the annual RMS Science Fair.

The fair is scheduled for this Friday, Dec. 20, from 9-11 a.m. in the RMS gymnasium and will feature more than 120 student-led experiments, including investigations on animal behavior, pirate patches, and the speed of light, to mention just a few.

The science fair is free to the public.

Pictured are eighth-graders Hayden Huss and Logan Gilbert on the verge of launching their Space Balloon recently. They chose to launch their space balloon in Issaquah because of the flight pattern they desired.

"They had researched the projected winds and trajectory and had a rough guess of where it might land if they launched it from there (prevailing winds push balloons to the east)," science teacher Ben Orth said. "They were researching to see how far it would travel and what kind of conditions would it be able to capture on video."

Want to find out how far their balloon traveled and where it came down?

Come to the science fair and find out.
