SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Police on Monday were searching for a suspect who shot and killed a man during an apparent home invasion at a posh home in Spokane's upscale South Hill neighborhood Sunday night.

Police said the victim's wife called 911 about 7 p.m. and said an intruder in their home had shot her husband. He died at the scene.

"Detectives do not believe this shooting was random," police spokeswoman Monique Cotton said Monday. "At this point in the investigation, detectives believe the victim was targeted by the shooter."

The name of the victim has not been released. Neighbors told reporters the victim and his wife had lived in the home for about a year and were from Moses Lake, Wash.

The shooting rattled residents in this tree-lined neighborhood of large, elegant homes.

The victim's wife told police the intruder pointed a gun at her husband, who tried to calm him down. She ran upstairs, then heard several gunshots.
