MOSES LAKE — Challenger David Skaug is leading incumbent Ron Covey in the race for a seat on the Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District board in unofficial election results updated Wednesday morning. Skaug has 1,034 votes to 486 for Covey.

The preliminary results include the ballots cast at the polling place Tuesday, but a number of absentee ballots remain to be counted, Sheri McFall said, the MLIRD board secretary.

About 2,000 absentee ballots were mailed, McFall said. She didn’t know how many had been returned.

Bill Bailey and Jeff Foster have a narrow lead over Larry Tracy in the race for the board’s two new seats. Bailey has 711 votes and Foster 702; Tracy has 696 votes and Mary Perry has 600 votes. The candidate that receives the most votes will be named to a three-year term on the expanded board. The runner-up will be named to a two-year term.

Absentee ballots will be counted Dec. 16, McFall said.
