Gumecindo Gamboa Jr.

| December 11, 2013 5:00 AM

Gumecindo Gamboa Jr., "Junior" as his friends and family knew him, was called by his heavenly father to rest on December 5th, 2013 in Moses Lake Washington at the age of 80.

Junior was born on March 26th in Edinburg Texas to Gumecindo Gamboa Sr. and Paula Coronado Gamboa. He was drafted in 1954 into the U.S. Army and served his country honorably during the Korean War. At a dance hall in Toppenish WA in 1956, Junior met the love of his life Oralia Arevelo and 4 months later they were married. While still serving in the army, Junior became one of Larson Air Force Base's skilled barbers. He and his wife later took that skill, and opened Gamboa's Barber Shop in 1962. Going to Gamboa's Barber Shop became a rite of passage to ones son when it came time to getting their first haircut- he was well known for giving a perfect flat top. Later in the years, his passion of barbering went to trucking. He left his business in good hands to his brother John Gamboa, who to this day owns and operates Gamboa's Barber Shop. Junior worked for 20+ years at Cenex Harvest States, where he retired. He realized retirement was not for him, and went back to work-driving trucks for National Frozen foods threw the 2013 harvest season.

Junior was a hard worker and a man of great dignity, all the way to the end. He loved throwing bbqs for family and friends and enjoyed dancing. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Elks club here in Moses Lake.
