For a good cause (or four)

| December 6, 2013 5:00 AM

We commend Bud Clary of Moses Lake for their fundraiser helping four local charities: the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Columbia Basin, Serve Moses Lake, New Hope Domestic Violence Services and the Moses Lake Food Bank.

Here's how it works: buy a new or used car and the above charities receive a donation from Bud Clary (or the customer can pick their favorite among the four charities). The fundraising goal is $20,000 and $4,000 has been raised.

Each organization is critical to the community.

The Boys and Girls Club has two locations, one in downtown Moses Lake and a second at North Elementary in the Larson Subdivision. At each clubhouse, after school activities are provided for kids who may otherwise go home to an empty house while both parents are still working.

Serve Moses Lake, a nonprofit in downtown Moses Lake, helps direct people to the resources they need, whether it be the food bank, housing assistance or the appropriate agency. Serve operates a facility called the Transformation House for men and women in transition needing a place to stay and prepares a hot meal for about 50 people four days a week, according to a Wednesday article in the Columbia Basin Herald.

New Hope Domestic Violence Services helps victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Grant and Adams counties. Victims can get the help they need and receive assistance finding medical and legal resources.

And the Moses Lake Food Bank provides food to people in need, which is especially important around the holiday season where some people are typically strapped for cash and struggling to make ends meet.

Bud Clary's fundraiser ends Dec. 19. If you're in the market for a car, consider visiting Bud Clary where your purchase can make a big difference in the lives of others.
