| December 5, 2013 5:00 AM

MOSES LAKE – The recent theft of a generator during a burglary at a local fire station was solved after a local metal recycler tipped of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. ?

Grant County Fire District No. 5’s station in Mae Valley was burglarized on Nov. 11, and a $1,500 Honda generator was taken. Investigating deputies notified local metal recyclers and gave a description. ?

On the morning of Nov. 14, J & K Auto Recyclers of Moses Lake called the Sheriff’s Office to report Tanner Gonsalez, 18 of Moses Lake, had tried to sell them the generator for $100. ?

Fire district staff went to J & K along with deputies, and verified the generator belonged to the fire district. Deputies contacted Gonsalez at his family’s home in Moses Lake and subsequently arrested him.

Gonsalez faces charges of second-degree possession of stolen property and second-degree trafficking of stolen property. ?

“I really appreciate the help we receive from local metal recyclers, who have done a good job of calling us when possibly stolen property arrives at their facilities,” Sheriff Tom Jones said. “That cooperation has led to the closing of several theft and property crime cases countywide.” ?

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Grant County Sheriff’s Office at 509-754-2011 ext. 468, or send information to crimetips@co.grant.wa.us. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
