ML home burglarized, set on fire

MOSES LAKE - A fire Friday afternoon near Moses Lake is being investigated as arson, possibly done to cover up a burglary.

About 1 p.m. Friday, Grant County Fire District 5 responded to a call for a structure fire at a home located at 13553 Baseline .5 Rd. SE. Investigators from the sheriff's office and Grant County Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the fire as arson.

Evidence at the scene suggests a burglary may have happened at the home before the fire started, according to the sheriff's office.

The homeowner was reportedly out of town when the incident occurred. Property missing from the home includes several guns and precious metals, valued at about $20,000.

The fire caused about $100,000 in damage to the home, according to the sheriff's office.
