Funeral services for Faye Miner Thornton Loose, 95, of Yakima (formerly of Moses Lake) will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Grape Drive Chapel, 905 N. Grape Dr., Moses Lake, WA, with Bishop Michael Van Slyke, Moses Lake 2nd Ward, officiating. Burial will follow in Pioneer Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Carver Family Funeral Home.

Our mother Faye died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Apple Creek Adult Family Homes in Yakima, where, with the help of her children, she was made to feel as much at home and cared for as possible for over 3 years.

She was born July 20, 1918 in Springville, Utah as the second child to Charles D. Miner and Elmina (Johnson) Miner. They lived in Salem where she attended school through 9th grade. Faye graduated from Spanish Fork High School, then she attended two years at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Faye married William Elbert Thornton, September 24, 1942. After military and family duties, Faye and Elbert moved to Blackfoot, Idaho for about a year and then moved with their little family of four children to Moses Lake, Washington in March 1949.

In the next 49 years in Moses Lake, Faye was among the early members of the Moses Lake Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was always an active, devoted member. As the Church grew, so did she. She had four more children, went to Central Washington State College in Ellensburg, and completed her BA teaching degree in 1965. She taught in Royal City and Moses Lake for the next 18 years retiring in May of 1983. After a short break, Faye was approached and courted by Ervin A. Loose and they were married on February 1, 1985. They moved to Enumclaw with Faye's son Elwood Thornton and family in 1998 where Faye stayed for 7 years. Then in December 2005 she moved to Yakima to be with her daughter, Charlene and husband Keith Angwin. Faye has been in Yakima for the past 8 years.

She is survived by one brother, Lewis C. Miner of SLC, Utah, three sisters, Elma (Miner) Emery of SLC, Utah, Elaine (Miner) Densley of West Valley, Utah, and Dorothy (Miner) Malmgren of Clearfield, Utah; six daughters, Carley Roberts of Creston, Iowa, Junelle Houston of West Jordan, Utah, Charlene Angwin of Yakima, Washington, Evelyn Thornton of Murray, Utah, Marilyn Konold of Veyo, Utah, Lucille Thornton of Murray, Utah and one son, Elwood E. Thornton of Enumclaw, Washington; 33 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ervin Loose, parents Charles D. Miner and Elmina (Johnson) Miner, one brother Carlos F. Miner, two sisters Leah (Miner) Shapiro and DeOna (Miner) Rasmussen; one daughter DeVota (Thornton) Pritchett; three grandchildren Jay Dee Roberts, Stephanie Kibbe and Spencer Thornton and one great-grandson Matthew Houston.

As a family we want to give a special thanks to Apple Creek Adult Family Homes of Yakima, and their staff, for their compassionate and loving care and support for our mother and her family.
