MOSES LAKE - Wrestling, basketball and soccer for kids and yoga and basketball for adults are among the activities sponsored through Moses Lake Parks and Recreation beginning this week.

Adult basketball leagues begin play in January, but teams must register by Thursday for the City and Church leagues. Cost is $175 per team.

City basketball league games are for those players "who still have competitive juices flowing through their veins," according to a press release from the parks and rec department. Games are at Moses Lake High School. The church league is "designed for friendly, low-key competition." Church league games are at Frontier Middle School.

Mat Muscle Wrestling continues from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays on Dec. 9 and 16 and Jan. 6, 13 and 20 at the MLHS wrestling room. It's open to kindergartners through sixth graders. High school wrestling coach Jaime Garza is the instructor.

Cost is $35 for the class, and lessons will focus on basic skills, sportsmanship and conditioning. Participants receive a Mat Muscle T-shirt, and participation in the class (and the T-shirt) gets kids into the Jan. 4 MLHS wrestling match free of charge.

Hoopster Tot classes for children ages 3 to 6 begin Wednesday and continue Dec. 11 and 18. Sessions are at 9:45 and 10:45 a.m. at the Learning Center, 701 Penn St.

For the December session only, cost is $30 per child per session, and $25 per child per session for siblings. There's a maximum of 10 kids per session. Jennifer Robertson is the instructor. The goal is to promote physical fitness, develop motor skills and teach kids a little bit about basketball.

"Flow Yoga" classes begin Thursday from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. at the Learning Center. The classes are open to people ages 16 and older and combine the classic yoga postures into continuous movement. Classes are $42 per person and are held every Thursday through Jan. 30, except Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. Libby Sullivan is the instructor.

Soccer Tots, for children ages 2 to 5, begins Friday and continues Dec. 13 and 20. Like Hoopster Tots, it's designed to develop motor skills, promote physical fitness and teach kids a little about the game. Cost is $30 per kid per session, $30 for each sibling per session, with a maximum of 10 students. Robertson is the instructor. Classes are at the Learning Center.

The Little Hoopsters girls basketball class begins Saturday; continuing classes are Dec. 14 and 21 and Jan 11, 18 and 25. Cost is $35 per girl, and it's open to girls in kindergarten through the sixth grade. Classes are from 11 a.m. to noon at the MLHS gym.

Cost is $35 per girl, including a T-shirt, and girls wearing their T-shirts will be admitted free to the Moses Lake-Sunnyside game Jan. 24. Moses Lake girls basketball coach Matt Strophy is the instructor.

People can register for classes at the parks and rec office, 411 South Balsam St., or contact the Parks and Rec Department at 509-764-3805.
