MOSES LAKE - Day Break owner Wanda Etheridge knows being an in-home caregiver can get stressful at times.

Those who take care of their family members at home sometimes have to miss appointments or other obligations because they either can't bring their family members with them or they can't leave them at home alone, she said.

Etheridge recently opened an adult day care center in Moses Lake to make it easier for caregivers to run errands, go to appointments and have some down time.

Families can drop off their loved ones for an hour or two, or the whole day, Etheridge said.

"If you're taking care of two people and one has an appointment, maybe the other one doesn't want to go," she said. "Well what if they can't stay at home by themselves or they need constant care?"

Caregivers are then faced with the dilemma of either having to stay home and miss the appointment or arranging for another caregiver to come to their home, Etheridge said. Day Break is a convenient way for families to avoid that dilemma, she said.

"It's also a chance to give them a little break and to have some free time," Etheridge said.

Day Break is a private care center, and is not funded through any state or federal program. It's the only facility of its kind in the county, she said.

Etheridge has more than 30 years of experience in providing geriatric care. She previously worked at the Moses Lake Clinic, she said.

Staff at Day Break are all licensed and CPR and First Aid certified, Etheridge said.

The center will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Day Break is located at 414 S. Burress Ave. For more information, call 509-764-1808.
