Westchester crowned World Series champions

MOSES LAKE - When the final out was recorded the Westchester, Calif. dugout emptied and dog piled onto pitcher Saul Martinez.

Martinez had just finished a complete game shut out securing the Babe Ruth League 14-year-old World Series championship for his team.

Westchester was able to complete their undefeated World Series campaign with a 8-0 win over Tualatin Hills, Ore. Saturday at Larson Playfield. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when center fielder Nolan Martinez was able to connect for a RBI single. From that point, Westchester's offense got into a rhythm and the team was able to score 7 more runs en route to the championship.

A 3-run fifth inning gave the team from California some breathing room going into the final frames.

Left fielder Dailin Lee hit an RBI single and Aaron Greenfield added to the lead with a 2-run single. The team from California put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring 4 runs on 5 hits.

Catcher Jonathan Phelps and Lee started the rally with back-to-back RBI singles. Second basemen Justin Morris drove in the final 2 runs for Westchester with a 1-out 2-run single.

Tualatin Hills' offense was never able to get on track and the team only managed 3 hits.

After the game finished, awards and trophies were presented to the teams at the closing ceremonies.
