Reader supports ML School Board member

| August 23, 2013 6:00 AM

Read the Aug. 8 issue of the Columbia Basin Herald regarding "The ML School Board votes to convert CBSS." I wouldn't be in their shoes for their socks! Darned if they do, darned if they don't!

I would like to talk about one School Board member in particular, Vicki Groff. My family moved to Moses Lake in April, 1970. A short time after - I met Ron and Vicki Groff at Larson playfield. Of course, they were totally involved with the kids.

I knew nothing about score keeping, and Vicki sat with me for 2-3 straight softball games teaching me. I had a question, just needed to call her. Basically, that's how our friendship began, over 40 years ago.

I don't know anyone who is/has been involved more with our kids and schools than Vicki. From flipping burgers at all the elementary school end of the year BBQ's, coming to concerts, etc. At the sporting events events, look up in the bleachers and you will most likely see Vicki. She has most likely been at more of "some" kids functions than their own parents! High school graduation - who's at the podium? Vicki.

The time for celebration comment possibly came after hours, days, weeks, months of investigating and discussions. Trying to get it as right as possible under the circumstances. With the failure of the board issue, that put a hurdle in the way. Not all goals were met to everyone's expectations - that's life. Knowing the board, I have a feeling they looked at every aspect and tried to come to a conclusion that would benefit Moses Lake.

Hopefully the next School Board bond will pass, as we certainly need it!
