Chiefs out of Babe Ruth World Series

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake 14-year-old Chiefs were unable to complete a seventh inning rally and fell to Jasper, Ind. 9-6 Wednesday night at Larson Playfield.

"They're gamers," head coach Pete Doumit said. "The kids never quit."

The loss dropped Moses Lake to 1-3 in pool play and eliminated them from the Babe Ruth World Series.

The Chiefs took an early 1-0 lead after Cameron Duke scored on an error in the top of the first but eventually fell behind after giving up 3 runs in the bottom of the first and 4 runs in the second inning.

"We spotted too many runs in the first couple innings and it's hard to play catch up," Doumit said. "It takes away your offense...you can't do any strategy."

Jasper's Evan Anders hit a lead off home run over the left field fence to tie the game at 1-1. Jasper took the lead after a 2-run double by Adam Hedinger.

Despite the early deficit, Moses Lake had opportunities to come back but left 12 runners on base.

Moses Lake loaded the bases in the seventh after Carter Stout doubled, Cain Valdez singled and Draven Navarez walked. The Chiefs were able to plate 2 runs before the rally ended with Chance Messer, the go-ahead run, striking out.

The Chiefs showed resilience throughout the tournament after losing their first game to Bryant, Ark. The team responded by beating Baxter Springs, Kan. and playing both undefeated Clifton Park, N.Y. and Jasper tough in losses.

"Those kids made memories," Doumit said. "That's what this whole thing is about, making memories."

Doumit hopes that his players would look back on this experience at their high school reunion and reminisce on the time they played in a World Series.

The quarterfinals of the World Series begin today at 5 p.m. with Jasper, Ind. vs. Tualatin Hills, Ore. and 8 p.m. with Longwood, Fla. vs. Bryant, Ark.

Manchester, N.H. 7 - Tualatin Hills 6

Manchester got their first win of the Babe Ruth World Series Wednesday after they beat Tualatin Hills 7-6.

Tualatin Hills will still advance to the quarterfinals as the 3 seed out of the American Division. They will face Jasper, Ind., from the National Division, today.

Joe Davis was the stand out for Manchester with 3 hits, 2 runs and 1 RBI. Gabe Skoro led the way for Tualatin Hills with 2 RBIs.

Clifton Park, N.Y. 10 - Baxter Springs, Kan. 0

Clifton Park completed their undefeated run through pool play Wednesday after beating Baxter Springs.

The Knights will receive a bye into the semifinals on Friday.

Clifton Park led 2-0 going into the bottom of the fourth before exploding for 7 runs. The Knights added 1 run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Nikolas Malachowski went 4-4 with 2 runs and 1 RBI and Payton Johnson added 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

Westchester, Calif. 15 - Puget Sound, Wash. 0

Westchester earned their fourth win of the World Series Wednesday after beating Puget Sound and will have a bye until the semifinals on Friday.

Puget Sound finishes the World Series with a 1-3 record.

Westchester used a 5-run third inning and a 6-run fourth inning to build a large lead before the game ended after five innings.

Justin Morris led Westchester with 2 hits, 3 runs and 4 RBIs. Nolan Martinez also added 3 RBIs.
