Bryant and Tualatin Hills advance

MOSES LAKE - The field of 10 teams has dwindled to four at the 2013 Babe Ruth 14-year-old World Series.

Only two more days until a champion is crowned.

Tualatin Hills, Ore. and Bryant, Ark. advanced to the semifinals today after winning their quarterfinal matchups Thursday.

Tualatin Hills faced off against Jasper, Ind. in the first quarterfinal game of the day.

The team from Oregon used a balanced offensive attack to beat Jasper 12-5.

Jasper led early, but Tualatin Hills tied the game at 5-5 after two innings and took the lead for good after the third.

The team from Indiana was able to plate three runners to start the game. Jared Sermersheim hit a sacrifice fly for the first RBI and Adam Hedinger followed with a 2-run single.

Tualatin Hills responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the first. Keegan Huey drove in 1 run, Kyle Thompson hit a RBI double and scored on an error. Renner Stecki scored the last run of the inning after Jasper's pitcher, Reece Kleinhelter committed a balk.

Jasper added 2 runs in the top of the second, but Tualatin Hills tied the game in the bottom half of the frame when Casey McGough hit a RBI triple and scored Jayden Hanna.

Tualatin Hills took the lead 7-5 after a 2-run third inning and cruised to a 12-5 victory.

After struggling early, Tualatin Hills' pitcher Kyle Temme settled down and went five and one third innings striking out three batters.

McGough recorded 4 hits, scored 2 runs and drove in 2 runs.

In the nightcap, Bryant, Ark squared off against Longwood, Fla.

Bryant, the defending World Series champions, struggled early giving up 6 runs in the top of the first. However, the team was able to regain its composure and retake the lead after scoring 8 runs in the first three innings.

Longwood struck early and took advantage of three errors committed by Bryant to start the game. Singles by Altoon Coleman, Bradon Tague and Chad Miller helped score 4 runs for Longwood. Alex Willis drove in 2 runs on a groundout.

The defending champs were down 6 runs to start the game, but the deficit was cut in half shortly.

Bryant responded with four straight hits to open the inning, including back-to-back RBI triples by Aaron Orender and Alex Shurtleff.

The team from Arkansas added 6 more runs to hold on and beat Longwood 9-7.

Garrent Misenheimer had 3 hits, 2 runs and 1 RBI for Bryant.

Semifinal games start today at 5 p.m. with Tualatin Hills vs. Clifton Park, N.Y. at 5 p.m. and Bryant vs. Westechester, Calif. at 8 p.m.

Clifton Park and Westchester are both undefeated.
