Donald A. Dunbar

Donald A. Dunbar, 87, of Ephrata, Washington, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata.

He was born to Ted and Gladys Dunbar on November 26, 1925 in Almeria, Nebraska and moved to South Dakota in 1930 where he went through school and graduated from Marty High School, Marty, South Dakota in 1944.

Donald was drafted into the United States Navy and was discharged in 1946.

He moved to Washington State and worked for Winston Utah operating a concrete mixer on the Soap Lake Siphon in 1950. Donald later went to work for the Washington State Department of Transportation for 30 years and retired in 1980.

He married Alice Jo Hall on July 19, 1947. Alice passed away on November 27, 2002 in Ephrata. They had one daughter, Judy Ann, born March 7, 1951.

Donald was a lifetime member of the Soap Lake and Ephrata senior centers and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his daughter Judy (Tim) Johnson; two grandchildren, Richard Paasch and Barbra Paasch; four great-grandchildren; his companion Alice Warren; and his beloved dog Trixie.

Graveside service and burial will be held Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Park in Soap Lake, Wash.

There will be a celebration of life Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Soap Lake Senior Center.
