MOSES LAKE - Well before the first show of the Kids' Pedal Tractor Pull, the children were lining up, none more eager than 4-year-old Tommy Gilliam.

Tommy, who turned 4 last month, was the only child to make it to the final round Tuesday at the Grant County Fair.

The free event, sponsored by the local American Family Insurance office, gives children ages 4 to 12 the opportunity to pedal a miniature John Deere tractor, pulling a weighted sled, trying to make it the full 25 feet.

Each child's name is announced before participating and prizes are given out at the end of the show.

Each tractor has been modified for heavy pulling and the sled is filled with a certain amount of weight, determined by the child's age. Each round, more weight is added, increasing the difficulty.

As the children pedal down the path, the weight of the bucket transfers up the sled and makes it harder to pedal the further they go.

The Kids' Pedal Tractor Pull has four free shows throughout the day, at 11:30 a.m., 2:30, 5:30 and 8:30 p.m.

Photos of the children are also available for purchase following the show.
