Two killed in crash near George Tuesday

GEORGE — Two men died Tuesday evening after a high speed crash near George.

About 7 p.m., emergency responders were sent to the 16400 block of Road 1 Northwest for a vehicle collision. According to the sheriff's office, Genaro Lopez Corona, 28, from George, was driving a 1994 Acura Integra east on Road 1 when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Corona and one passenger, Salvador Zepeda, 21, from Quincy, both died at the scene.

Corona was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Zepeda was wearing his seatbelt.

It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs are a factor in the crash. The Grant County Sheriff's Motor Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate.
