Ephrata offers free test for kids' developmental delays

| August 12, 2013 9:53 AM

EPHRATA — Is your child showing signs they are significantly delayed in language, cognitive, motor or social skills? Ephrata School District announced they are offering screening for children from birth to 5 whose parents are concerned about their development.

Last year the birth to 3 program included a once a week class for more than a dozen infants and children. Director of Special Education Travis Eloff said kids are beginning kindergarten socially unprepared and delayed in language development.

“The importance of early screening is that we can begin working with children as soon as possible,” to prepare then to learn in a classroom environment, he said.

The Ephrata School District Special Services Department serves developmentally delayed children through age 21 living within the Ephrata School District.

Call the department at 509-754-3538 to schedule a screening appointment Aug. 29 or 30. If you are unavailable for these dates, a later appointment can be arranged.
