| August 11, 2013 6:00 AM

EPHRATA - The Grant County Sheriff's Office is looking for several good people to become reserve deputies.

Reserve deputies are volunteer law enforcement officials who fulfill the many patrol functions offered by the GCSO.

According to Sheriff Tom Jones, this is a great opportunity for anyone interested in making a contribution to the community.

"I started my career as a reserve officer, and I encourage anyone who wants to become a reserve deputy to apply and see if it is a good fit for them," Jones said.

Applications will be accepted until Sept. 20. Testing of candidates is tentatively scheduled to begin Saturday, Sept. 21.

The testing process includes a background check, physical agility test, written test and oral interview panel.

The anticipated start date of the regional reserve training academy is Tuesday, Nov. 5. All classes are held in Moses Lake.

Academy classes are held on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, Saturdays and some Sundays. The academy lasts about 19 weeks.
