Moses Lake baseball players visit seniors

| August 9, 2013 6:00 AM

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake 14U Chiefs reached out to the community and visited residents of Emeritus Senior Living recently.

The team is preparing for the Babe Ruth League 14U World Series that kicks off August 17 at Larson Field.

"The players were greeted with smiles and handshakes from the residents who appreciated the team for coming out to visit them," parent Jackie Johnson stated.

During the trip players were given a tour of the facility, conversed with residents and introduced themselves and position.

"Chiefs' players found common ground with baseball fans from another generation at the Moses Lake Senior Living Facility," Heather Messer, a parent who attended the trip, wrote.

Residents returned the favor of the players' hospitality by sharing stories from their days playing baseball and who their favorite Mariners are.

The trip was described as a great afternoon to share American's pastime.

Johnson explained that interacting with the residents at Emeritus was a good way to say thank you and demonstrate respect for the seniors in the community.

Opening ceremonies for the World Series begin August 17 and the tournament concludes August 24.

Organizers are also looking for families to host two or three boys for the duration of the tournament. Host families would be responsible for transportation and meals during the players' stay.
