Boys and Girls Club run offers healthy activity for Moses Lake
MOSES LAKE - More than a hundred runners raced through parts of Moses Lake during Saturday's Marathon and Family Fun Run hosted by the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Columbia Basin.
Runners had their choice of a marathon, half-marathon, 10-kilometer or five-kilometer race. Proceeds from the annual event will go right back to the Boys and Girls Club, said organizers.
Volunteer Julie Knapp said just over 100 people registered for the race this year. Last year, about 120 people ran in the event, she said.
A number of registered runners signed up the day of the marathon, said Knapp.
Marathon runners started their race at 7 a.m., while runners in the half-marathon race started a half-hour later. The 10K and 5K races began at 8 a.m.
All runners began their races at the Moses Lake High School track. The marathon and half-marathon courses took runners through the Dune Lakes area, along country roads before turning around and finishing at the high school.
10K runners turned around at the Grant County Fire District No. 5 station on Potato Hill Road.
Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Brant Mayo said the group is still calculating how much the event raised.
