Vantage Recreation area experiences closures

VANTAGE — The Grant County PUD closed their boat launch in the Vantage Recreation area Wednesday. The launch has been green-lighted by the Kittitas County fire officials to re-open today.
The boat launch is located north of Vantage and I-90 on the Kittitas side of the Columbia River. Are recreational visitors are encouraged to keep updated on closures and plan accordingly.
The area was also evacuated by the Kittitas County Sheriff Wednesday, and people in more than 100 homes were encouraged to leave immediately. These families and their animals were offered shelter in Ellensburg.
Today, the fire reportedly covers 80,402 acres and is 30 percent contained, according to InciWeb.org. Three primary residences and several outbuildings in Chelan County and several minor outbuildings in Kittitas County have burned. More than 100 firefighters are working on the blaze, supported by 14 aircraft.
