Consider volunteering at New Hope

| August 2, 2013 6:00 AM

Many volunteer and service opportunities are available in the Columbia Basin.

Lions Club, Rotary, Meals on Wheels, your child's school, just take your pick. There are plenty of ways to make a difference in others lives.

But a very pressing need is approaching at New Hope Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center in Moses Lake. The organization assists victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

New Hope could be without four employees in about two months because a grant isn't being renewed, according to a front page article in Tuesday's Columbia Basin Herald.

It means after September, there may not be enough employees to help handle all services provided in the Moses Lake office, according to the organization's director, Danielle Hill.

Existing staff members are cross-trained, but now the concern is the amount of bodies left to do the work.

New Hope provides many services, including one-on-one support for victims, information and emergency shelter, food and clothing to victims, help to victims during the medical and legal process, therapist contact information, a 24-hour crisis line, support groups, and training and presentations.

New Hope provides help to people in need during a stressful and traumatic time. We hope the service can continue and encourage you to help if you can, or forward this information to someone who may be in a position to assist.

To volunteer, donate, or for more information, please contact Hill at 509-764-8402, or dhill@co.grant.wa.us.
