Quincy man allegedly leads police on high-speed chase

EPHRATA - A Quincy man reportedly led police on a high speed chase throughout Quincy and onto state Highway 28.

Porfirio Armenta Jr., 19, was charged this week for trying to elude police, second-degree driving while license suspended and DUI.

It started when Quincy police were dispatched to a disturbance on B Street recently.

According to court documents, it was reported that a white BMW and a green Honda drove past each other. A gun was displayed by someone in one of the vehicles.

Quincy police were able to find the green Honda. When officers signaled for the vehicle to stop Armenta allegedly accelerated and attempted to elude police. Armenta reportedly led police on a chase that covered an estimated 35 miles.

According to court documents, the Honda was clocked traveling up to 110 to 120 mph and almost struck a car. Eventually, the vehicle left the Quincy city limits and continued onto Highway 28.

When the vehicle turned off state Route 28 onto Palisades Road, the Honda reportedly slowed down enough so that a State Patrol trooper could catch up and stop the car chase.

It was done by forcing the fleeing car to turn sideways. The goal was to cause the driver to lose control and stop. The Honda reportedly went off the road behind a home, crashing into a fence before hitting a backhoe.

Armenta ran from the vehicle, but was soon caught by law enforcement. The passengers stayed in the vehicle and reportedly told Armenta to stop throughout the chase.

According to the police report, Armenta said he fled because his license was suspended and he had marijuana in the car. He also reportedly told police he left a bag of marijuana near where he was arrested.

Officers reportedly found a bag of marijuana consistent with the location and amount Armenta told them.

According to court documents, Armenta also said that he had allegedly smoked during the chase and was high when he was arrested.

Armenta was booked into Grant County Jail and his bail was set at $50,000. The damage to the fence is estimated at $100.
