Chiefs perform well at Davis

YAKIMA - Moses Lake track and field turned in some outstanding performances at the Big 9 dual meet with Wenatchee and the Pirates at Davis High School Wednesday.

The girls placed first in 12 out of 18 events to dominate the competition. The boys had three first's, five second's, and two third-place finishers on the day.

"The girls had another awesome meet, setting several personal records," coach Nicki Weiland said. "Sadie Nielsen had a monster throw in the discus, and the 4x200 relay team broke the school record (1:45.90) set in 1988, finishing at 1:45.70."

Girls

London Cleverly was the top female athlete for Moses Lake with a first place finish in the 200 (26.65) and 400-meters (1:00.03), and was a member of the top 4x100 (49.71) and 400 (4:06.46) relay teams.

Sadie Nielsen had another solid outing placing first in the shot put (36-08.00) and discus with throw of 137-05, which exceeded her personal best by six feet set last week in Hermiston.

Additional top Chief finishers were Kayla Grigg who took first in the javelin (96-07), Taylor Yamane (16.72) in the 100 hurdles, Alysha Overland (46.35) in the 300 hurdles, and Selina Koon who took fist in the long jump (17-00), and triple jump (32-06.00).

Boys

The top placers for the boys were Malcolm Ransom who crossed the finish line at 23.47 in the 200-meters, and Cameron Ballard who placed first in the long jump (20-04.50) and triple jump (40-08.00).

Second place finishers were Malcolm Ransom (11.51) in the 100 meters, Lowell Kirkwood (2:00.07) in the 800-meters, Alek Schweisow (4:35.60) in the 1600, Ballard (6-00.00) in the high jump, the 4x100 relay team (47.13) of Jamie Carpenter, Brady Anderson, Brandon Bastian and Ralph Holt, and the 4x400 team of Carpenter, Schweisow, Bastian and Holt who turned in a time of 3:44.15.

"The weather was great ... perfect for running," coach Kevin Whittall said. "We had personal records set by some of the boys. Colton Rose, who turned out for the first time this year, finally broke 40 feet in the shot. Lowell Kirkwood who placed second in the 800 meters just keeps getting better each time out, and Alek Schweisow and Brooks Milbrandt really stepped up as well. It was nice to have Malcolm Ransom back. He tweaked his hamstring in the 200 Meters, but I expect him back next week."

The Chiefs are back in action Saturday when the boys take part in the Ellensburg Invite, and the girls head West to participate in the Lake Washington Invite in Kirkland.
