Chiefs drop first league game

EAST WENATCHEE - The Chiefs nine game win streak in Big 9 league play came to an end Tuesday with a 7-1 loss on the road at Eastmont High School.

The defeat at the hands of the Wildcats (8-2) dropped the team to 9-1 and 12-3 overall, but did not move Moses Lake out of first place in the standings.

"It wasn't one of our better games this season as they outplayed us in all phases," coach Quintz Whitaker said. "Our pitching location wasn't the best and they made some good plays on our hard hit balls."

Eastmont got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Moses Lake responded with a run in the top of the third to close the gap to 3-1 and avoid the shutout.

The Wildcats brought two runs across the plate in the bottom of the inning and added two more in the fourth to round out the scoring for the game.

Colton Kelly, Drew Loera, Brett Moser (2B) and Gunner Raymond (2B) had a hit each in the contest. Jacob Price gave up seven runs off seven hits in 3 1/3 innings on the hill, and was tagged with the loss for the Chiefs. Chase Tunstall gave up four hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Moses Lake gets an opportunity to turn the tide on Eastmont Friday when the Chiefs host the Wildcats in twin bill action at Larson Field. Game one is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

"The good thing about the league this year is we get a change to get right back at them," Whitaker said. "It would be nice to see a lot of people come out and support the team."

Moses Lake travels to Wenatchee Monday for a single game against the Panthers, then closes out the regular season at home with a doubleheader against Wenatchee May 3.

The district playoffs get underway May 11.
