Arson probe continues in Moses Lake fire

MOSES LAKE - Investigators continued Tuesday their arson investigation into a house fire that destroyed a vacant home near Blue Heron Park in Moses Lake.

Moses Lake Police Capt. Dave Sands said further details on the investigation cannot be released at this time.

According to Moses Lake Fire Department Chief Tom Taylor, fire crews responded about 11 p.m. Monday to a house fire on 4017 Dusty Street. Taylor said the call originated as an outside fire. Nobody was inside the home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters were at the home past midnight, but because of the extensive damage throughout the structure, Taylor said they were unable to find evidence of what started the fire.

The fire appears to have started at a corner on the outside porch at the front of the home, according to Taylor. The porch roof had burned to the ground. The fire spread throughout the home, but did not damage any other homes nearby.

Taylor said the fire was not accidental and was most likely started by some sort of incendiary device. He described the fire as "suspicious in nature."

The fire department's investigation has been completed, according to Taylor.

The Moses Lake Police Department continues its investigation.
